#26: July 04, 2009

The web broadcast for the show was tagged with artist/title info for each song. The software I use (Screamer) automatically splices the recording into separate mp3s to fit the tags. The good thing about this is being able to navigate through the tracks easier, the bad news is that it isn't always accurate and doesn't recognize any talking segments. It didn't appear that the tracks were labeled in any way that would keep things in order, so I went through and tagged track numbers to each song and also put the show date as an album title. Hopefully that will keep things straight enough.

I can still upload the files, so what I was thinking is that it may speed things up if someone can add the posts through Blogger.

Lately it seems to work out that I get the file uploading but I am out the door before it finishes and I can tell everyone it's there. Sometimes it can be a day or more before I can return to it. It's frustrating on both ends, having the file there and knowing people are waiting on it but can't get to it.

I used to be able to listen to the show as it was broadcasting, so I was able to keep track of what actually aired and adjust the track list if needed. Circumstances here don't allow for that anymore. Now I'm posting shows I haven't heard yet and falling farther behind on the checking the lists later.

I personally don't like the splitted files, because MP3 does not support gapless playback (en.wikipedia.org/.../...), so the typical "radio flow" gets lost.

Do not understand me wrong. I really appreciate this site and all the work, and it would be a huge loss for me, if the site would be down! I just think, keeping it simple would be the best way. If the show is posted at all, I don't care that much about the actuall playlist or any additional things.

You can splice the tracks back together into one or two larger mp3 files. I use MP3Merge to do that.
